Head Of Department
Welcome to Department of Nursing!
The objective of the training in the Department of Nursing, specifically in the field of Pediatric Nursing, is to equip students with the necessary knowledge, skills, and competencies to provide safe, effective, and compassionate care to pediatric patients. The training program is designed to achieve the following objectives:
Develop a comprehensive understanding of pediatric nursing: The training aims to provide students with a solid foundation of knowledge in pediatric nursing, including theories, principles, and concepts related to child health and development. Students will gain an understanding of the unique physiological, psychological, and social aspects of caring for children across various age groups.
Acquire clinical skills and competence: Practical training is a vital component of the program. Students will have the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world clinical settings, working with pediatric patients under the guidance of experienced instructors. Through hands-on experience, students will develop clinical skills such as assessing pediatric patients, administering medications, providing age-appropriate interventions, and managing common pediatric illnesses.
Foster a patient-centered and family-centered approach: Pediatric nursing is centered around the child and their family. The training program emphasizes the importance of establishing a therapeutic relationship with both the child and their family, actively involving them in the care process, and addressing their unique emotional and psychosocial needs. Students will learn effective communication and collaboration skills to build trust and support families during challenging times.
Promote evidence-based practice: The training program encourages students to base their nursing interventions on the best available evidence. Students will be introduced to research methodologies and learn how to critically appraise scientific literature related to pediatric nursing. By integrating evidence-based practice into their care, students will contribute to improved patient outcomes and the advancement of pediatric nursing as a whole.
Develop critical thinking and decision-making skills: Pediatric nursing often involves complex and rapidly changing situations. The training program aims to develop students’ critical thinking and decision-making abilities, enabling them to assess and prioritize patient needs, anticipate potential complications, and make sound clinical judgments. Students will learn to think critically, solve problems, and adapt their care plans based on individual patient responses.
The field of Pediatric Nursing offers a wide range of opportunities for professional growth and development. Upon completion of the training program, you will have access to various career paths and settings where you can apply your skills and make a positive impact on the lives of pediatric patients. Some of the opportunities in Pediatric Nursing include:
Pediatric Hospitals: Pediatric nurses are in high demand in specialized pediatric hospitals. These hospitals cater exclusively to children and provide comprehensive care for a wide range of pediatric conditions. Working in a pediatric hospital allows you to focus solely on pediatric patients and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals.
General Hospitals: Many general hospitals have dedicated pediatric units or pediatric departments where nurses with specialized training in pediatric care are needed. These units provide care to children with a variety of medical and surgical conditions. Working in a general hospital setting offers exposure to a diverse patient population and opportunities for collaboration with healthcare professionals from different specialties.
Pediatric Intensive Care Units (PICUs) and Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs): PICUs and NICUs are specialized units that provide critical care to seriously ill or premature infants, children, and adolescents. Working in these units requires advanced knowledge and skills in managing complex medical conditions and monitoring critically ill patients. It offers an opportunity to work with advanced medical technologies and be part of a highly skilled healthcare team.
Pediatric Clinics and Primary Care Settings: Pediatric nurses can also work in outpatient clinics and primary care settings, where they provide preventive care, routine check-ups, vaccinations, and health education to children and their families. These settings focus on promoting wellness, monitoring growth and development, and managing common childhood illnesses.
Pediatric Home Health Care: Some children require ongoing medical care at home due to chronic illnesses or disabilities. Pediatric nurses can provide home health care services, making regular visits to assess the child’s condition, administer medications, provide wound care, and offer support and education to the child and their family.
