FOMIC Polytechnic University Institute Signs Landmark Agreement with Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, USA

Buea, Cameroon — 24 May 2025

FOMIC Polytechnic University Institute (FPUI) has entered into a landmark academic partnership with Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) in Tifton, Georgia, United States of America. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed on 24 May 2025, provides a structured pathway for FPUI undergraduates to transfer to ABAC to complete their degree programmes.

The MoU was formally executed by Dr Tracy L. Brundage, President of ABAC, and Professor Michael Forzeh Fossung, Pro-Chancellor of FPUI. The ceremony was witnessed by Dr Jerry Baker, Interim Dean of the School of Agriculture and Natural Resources (SANR) at ABAC, and Dr Esendugue Greg Fonsah, Professor at the University of Georgia’s Tifton Campus and Chancellor of FOMIC Polytechnic University.

This collaborative agreement reflects a shared commitment to promoting academic excellence, cultural exchange, and research collaboration. It is built on principles of mutual benefit, equality, and the pursuit of shared academic goals, all within the framework of the laws and policies governing each institution.

Through this partnership:

FPUI students will have the opportunity to transfer to ABAC for the completion of undergraduate degrees, subject to ABAC’s international transfer admission requirements.

Joint academic programmes and collaborative research projects will be initiated, particularly in the fields of Agriculture, Business, and Medical Sciences.

Faculty and staff exchanges will be facilitated to promote knowledge sharing and professional development.

Study abroad opportunities will be created, allowing students to participate in short-term international academic and cultural enrichment programmes.

In an official communication from ABAC’s Office of Marketing and Communications, it was stated:

“Students from FOMIC Polytechnic University Institute in Cameroon now have a clear pathway to transfer to the School of Agriculture and Natural Resources at ABAC. The agreement strengthens FPUI’s ability to offer its students enhanced academic mobility and international exposure.”

Dr Jerry Baker remarked on the strategic significance of the collaboration, highlighting plans to develop two-week study abroad programmes, offering students from both institutions opportunities for immersive learning experiences.

The initiative was spearheaded by Dr Esendugue Greg Fonsah, who recognised the strong alignment between the two institutions, particularly in the fields of agriculture, nursing, and business. This alignment is further reinforced by the involvement of distinguished ABAC alumnus, Dr Sidat Yaffa, a 1994 graduate who currently serves in The Gambia and maintains professional ties with FPUI.

FOMIC Polytechnic University Institute continues to expand its academic offerings, providing programmes in Agriculture, Engineering and Technology, Business and Management, Medical and Biomedical Sciences, Nursing, and International Relations. This agreement underscores FPUI’s unwavering commitment to fostering global academic partnerships and preparing students for success in an increasingly interconnected world.
